New here, I've been searching for a forum like this for a long time. I run a Ryobi 3404DI, and have a severe problem running 80# coated book (pacesetter). The sheets bunch up on the feed table from static. I installed an Ionix static eliminator, tried tinsel, tried running a wire from the press to ground, but the only thing that kind of works is taping a whole bunch of dryer sheets on the feed table. Very frustrating. Our press room is too cold (60) and humidity is probably too high (we're right near the water in Seattle), but that is something I can't change. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
Todd

I have had some similiar problems running 80# gloss. 100# is no problem.

One thing I would check is your humidity. You say it is 'probably too high' but I would check it. The reason I say this is because I am in Vancouver (even colder than Seattle) near the water as well. Up until a week ago I was not monitoring my humidity as I thought it was ok. Actually I did have a humidity reader along with my thermometer (cheap) but it was obviously broken. Upon further checking my humidity was about 30-35%. Apparently the humidity should be up at about 50-60%. I went out and bought a humidifier and put it in the room with the press. I know try to keep the humidity up at around 50%.

I have not run any 80# yet with the higher humidity but from what I have read, humidity plays a big role in reducing static, along with helping with some other issues.

It might be worth checking it out. Can you add a humidifier?

Thanks for the tip! I definitely need to get a thermometer/humidity gauge.

We run 80lb Text - No Problem at all. Temp is usually in 70's and low humidity. It runs fine. Just the default ionix system.

If I'm thinking of the same problem we have now and then is that the static is actually coming from the tapes themselves. The paper sticks to the tape and then bunches up when it hits the front stops. That maybe the bunching action that you are experiencing. Our immediate fix is treating the tapes with anti-static spray. Each spraying maybe good for 1,500 to 2,000 sheets. The only problem is the spray is noxious. What I do is spray and walk away form the feed section. Hope this helps.

All good suggestions. We run 80# gloss almost daily on our QMDI Plus and Komori 226II. Very low humidity, were at 7000 ft in the Rockies. Very dry most of the year. Our press rooms are always at 67-71 degrees. We have had a static problem 1 time in 22 years. The solution, we got rid of the brand we were running. No more problems, ever. Before spending money on humidity control, try several different brands of paper first. Hopefully that will solve the problem.

I run a 5334 DI in Up-State NY - humid in summer dry in winter. 3 years ago I removed all the "anti-static" crap that my predecessors had hanging on the feed table. What I realized was that the feed tapes that transport the paper from the stack tray would get dirty from either uncoated stock or ink rub off from a previous job. My boss has a penchant for buying the cheapest paper he can find, so I have to deal with it. The biggest problem I have with paper, 80# gloss coated especially, is the buckling at the stops before the grippers pick the sheets up. I take a Webril Wipe soaked in iso Alcohol and let the press idle as I clean the tapes. Once clean and dry the paper runs with no problem. I have never used any of the dryer sheets left in my supply cabinet.

Just sayin is all

We've been using Acohol for this problem for awhile now with good result except that I have to do it more often than I like. I recently followed the alcohol wash with spraying the belts with silicon and lightly drying them. I'm now going days without the problem even with my worst offending stock.
