| Having a problem on our Presstek 5634 with the plates in tower 1 not inking up at the start of a new run. We been through several rolls of plates since this started. When we wipe them down with alcohol (after several times)and increase the ink values above the auto preset, then they start to take on ink. First started on the cyan plate, now its on both cyan and yellow. This started about a month ago and has gradually gotten worse. Any ideas out there? Thanks for any help. |

| Did you check the adjustment of the rollers to the plate. Has your ink changed so you need to preink longer. |

| Thanks for your input. We've increased and decreased the roller pressure to plate with no success. Thinking maybe the chill temp to the ink rollers needs adjustment. We've tried raising temp by 1/2 degree which led to toning. We are now trying to lower by 1/2 degree to see if any difference. Room temp currently at 69F, ink roller temp at 20.1 and laser at 26. Using the same Toyo ink since we installed press. Now getting inking issues with magenta. Any other ideas? |

For about a year now, first thing in the morning my pressman washes the rollers, then the blankets, then auto stirs the inks giving the blankets and rollers time to fully dry. He has already done the complete cleaning cycle night before as well. He does the morning cleaning because he notices paper fibers etc still on rollers. We've heard the press wash can change chemically if it freezes (freeze during transportation en route to our shop), so we stocked up in the fall before freezing temps hit.
Weird thing with our inking problem is that it seems like the rollers don't even touch the plates. And this happens at the start of every job, not just the first job of the day. We've checked and rechecked our roller pressures. We can manually roll the press, then engage the rollers and the plates ink up fine. |

Sounds like it might be a pneumatic problem, can you confirm if the rollers are actually dropping onto the plate when it starts up??
Printers don't get old, they just loose registration. |

just curious I know you've checked the stripes on the plate. Have you looked to see if the rollers are actualy inked up after the initial inking? Are your forms in good cantact with the distributors (occilatrs)? If not pumping the ink would eventually load them up enough to ditribute the ink but it will get harder and harder to maintain consistancy.
Just a thought |

I know this sounds crazy, but from what I've read I haven't seen that your pressman does a "Start Ink" before trying to run something. Also my routine is a bit different, as I do my roller wash at night or end of shift. In the morning, I start with a blanket wash and "stir Inks" at the same time, after completed I then go to "Manual Print" and do a Start Ink, before I even think of setting up the first job to run.
just wanted to clearify, thanks Sparky
